Trochanteric Bursitis

Trochanteric Bursitis (Gluteus Medius Tendinosis)

Trochanteric Bursitis is a common cause of hip pain that limits function and makes everyday activities like walking and exercise difficult and painful.  Most patients improve with focused Physical Therapy and strengthening, however, as with other tendinopathies like Tennis elbow, Golfer's elbow, and Jumper's knee, sometimes the pain is lasting and resistant.

Pain from tendons is usually on the outside edge of the hip.

Pain from tendons is usually on the outside edge of the hip.

While open surgery can be a successful option, less invasive procedures are available.  Tenex, which is an ultrasound-guided procedure uses an ultrasound probe to cut and remove damaged tissue to allow healthy tendon tissue to regrow.  This lowers, if not eliminates pain in the area after an average 3 month recovery period, which is substantially shorter than the 1-year average time most patients struggle with this problem.

If you have gone through at least 6 weeks of focused physical therapy without significant benefit, Tenex may be a good option for you.  For more details, please contact our office at 847-866-7846 and ask for Michelle or Jennifer.
