Radial Septum Dissection in distal radius fracture exposure

The extended FCR approach first described by Jorge Orbay  and Diego Fernandez remains the best way of exposing distal radius fractures for reduction and fixation. Despite the fact that it was first described over 15 years ago, many people have difficulty with the distal radial portion of that section.

This video demonstrates only the portion of the approach from finding the brachioradialis tendon to tracing it down to the first extensor compartment, where a first extensor compartment release is performed to facilitate exposure.

I made this video for one of my  Hand surgeon buddies, but hopefully it can be useful to others.

WARNING: this video shows intraoperative dissection and may not be suitable for all viewers.
